ArtCenter offers 11 undergraduate and 10 graduate degrees in a wide array of industrial design, visual and applied arts disciplines, as well as minors for undergraduate students in Business, Creative Writing, Material Science, Research, and Social Innovation.
A Supportive Community
The structure was designed to be reminiscent of early monasteries with its inornate exterior surface and cavernous yet inviting interior. An office space in the Gatehouse is now a soothing spa-inspired lounge designed by Margaret Lalikian. The designer referenced the house’s original name, El Robles—Spanish for oak tree—with a tree-filled landscape mural by Arpy Dabbaghian. “For the wall mural, I had to pick something to bring them into nature and a calming environment,” Lalikian says. We prepare serious photographers to serve as cultural leaders of the 21st century. Our studios and seminars explore historic traditions, wide-ranging techniques, recent innovations, and the role of the contemporary photographer.
Studio Art
Synthesis Design + Architecture is a forward thinking and multi-award winning design firm based in Los Angeles, California with architectural licenses in California, Arizona and Colorado and experience with international projects (Thailand, China, Italy, and the UK). Established in 1918, Otis College of Art and Design prepares students in the art and design capital of Los Angeles for a dynamic future in the creative economy. The College educates a diverse community of over 1,200 students in a supportive setting to become highly skilled professionals in established and emerging creative sectors.

Under the direction of Rosemary Brantley, this program is considered one of the top fashion design programs of its kind in the U.S.[15] Otis Fashion Design is housed at the California Market Center in downtown Los Angeles. Students benefit from working closely with design mentors and are trained in all aspects of the design process while emulating a fashion design studio, and following the industry's seasonal schedule. Visiting critics have included designers such as Bob Mackie, Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, Diane von Fürstenberg, Isabel Toledo, Isaac Mizrahi, and Todd Oldham.[16] Major designers such as Eduardo Lucero and Rick Owens are alumni of the program. Atelier Scale is a landscape studio that focuses on people’s livelihood with the power of design. It aims to explore the relationship within different scales in landscape, that is, to find creative solutions and expressions from the relationships between the whole and parts, groups and individuals.
Otis College Events
The two-year, studio-based program offers a multi-disciplinary platform for diverse and experimental practices. The MFA in Design is a five-term, studio-based program that encourages a unique and relevant contemporary design practice for a rapidly changing world. The third graduate degree offered at USC Roski is the MA in Curatorial Practices and the Public Sphere, a platform for scholarship in contemporary art. The program aims to bring students to a high level of understanding of the history and theory of curatorial practices, with attention paid to questions of how curating activates art in relation to a range of audiences and interacts with diverse communities.
The designer outfitted a door handcrafted in India with a vintage mirror to create a one of a kind headboard and bathed the space in deep emerald green. The glamorous touches continue in the ensuite bath, where Sabatella added a custom mirror-tiled tub that plays off the vintage French tile floor. Hand-painted floors were the jumping-off point for designer Amy Peltier’s soothing primary bedroom design. “It was so much work, but it turned out beautiful.” The firm wanted the space to feel “light and airy and breezy,” and incorporated fabrics and wall coverings by Thibaut in a soft color palette. Peltier and designer Marina Kelly installed an arch to divide the bedroom from the sitting area, breaking up the large space.

Maria Videla-Juniel, who designed the primary bathroom of the main house, also devised a welcoming entry to the Gate House. A Thibault wall covering graces the entry, and a Fibreworks runner leads guests up the stairs. Native California wildflowers accent the Arroyo Vista Garden, which was designed with fire safety in mind.

Below, tour the inspiring rooms and outdoor spaces of the 2024 Pasadena Showcase House of Design. Students begin with rigorous instruction in traditional drawing and painting materials, methods, techniques, and concepts. Then they explore experimental and multi-disciplinary approaches to painting, as well as its complex and culturally influential history. The blue “+” badge denotes that a project has won a prestigious A+Award as described above. Hovering over the badge reveals details of the award, including award category, year, and whether the project won the jury or popular choice award. Admission to the Roski School of Art and Design at the undergraduate level is granted through the USC Office of Admission.
Our weeklong day camps offer fun opportunities for young artists to discover a variety of mediums. O-Launch is a weekend of in-person and virtual programs showcasing the future of art and design through the work of Otis College’s talented graduating students. Highlights include the campus-wide Annual Exhibition, the Fashion Show and Industry Night, and the commencement ceremony featuring special guest speakers and honorary degree recipients. FreelandBuck is a full service architecture design practice formed in 2009 and based in Los Angeles. Partners David and Brennan have over 15 years of experience in architecture and landscape architecture. The firm has exhibited widely and received the 2011 ArchIs Prize for emerging architects from the Los Angeles AIA.
